How a Clearwater Pool Gets Built

Eight stages from first phone call to first swim — what happens, roughly how long it takes, and what we need from you at each step. Most fiberglass installs run two to four weeks from dig to water once permits are issued.

    1. 01

      Free on-site evaluation

Usually within days of your call

We walk the yard with you. We check where the excavator and crane can get in, what the soil looks like, where setbacks and utilities land, how the ground falls, and where the equipment pad can sit. This visit is what makes the rest of the numbers real.

What we need from you: Have a rough idea of where you want the pool and who uses it — laps, kids, entertaining.

    2. 02

      Model selection and written estimate

      Same week

We narrow the Barrier Reef catalog to the shells that genuinely fit your access and setbacks, then price the whole project: shell, excavation, spoil removal, plumbing, electrical coordination, deck, and any retaining walls the grade demands.

What we need from you: Compare models on our catalog pages and tell us what you like.

    3. 03

      Permits, engineering and scheduling

      Varies by city

We pull the local permit, coordinate inspections, and make sure the build meets Utah residential pool code including barrier and fencing requirements. Then you get a start date.

What we need from you: Nothing — we handle the paperwork.

    4. 04

      Excavation and base prep

      Day 1–3

Precision dig to the shell's profile, spoil hauled off, then a levelled and compacted gravel base with the plumbing rough-in set. This is the loud, messy stage and it goes quickly.

What we need from you: Keep vehicles and pets clear of the access route.

    5. 05

      Shell set and backfill

      Set day

The one-piece shell is craned in and levelled to within an eighth of an inch, then backfilled while water goes in at the same rate so the shell stays supported and true.

What we need from you: This is the day worth watching.

    6. 06

      Plumbing, electrical and equipment

      Following week

Pump, filter, sanitation and any heater or automation are installed, pressure-tested and commissioned. Utah County builds get plumbing runs laid out so the pool can be fully winterized each fall.

What we need from you: Decide on heater and automation if you haven't.

    7. 07

      Coping, decking and hardscape

      1–2 weeks

Concrete flatwork or pavers, coping, retaining walls, fencing and landscaping — built by the same crew, on the same schedule, so nobody is waiting on a subcontractor.

What we need from you: Pick your deck material and colour.

    8. 08

      Startup, walkthrough and handover

      Final day

Water balanced, equipment run through a full cycle, and a walkthrough covering the pump schedule, chemistry, cleaning and winterizing. Warranty documents registered and handed over.

What we need from you: Bring questions. Ask all of them.

    What can move the timeline

    • Permit and inspection scheduling, which varies by city.
    • Access — a narrow side yard can mean smaller equipment and more days.
    • Rock. Southern Utah caliche and sandstone occasionally slow a dig.
    • Deck and hardscape scope. The pool is fast; a large paver deck is not.
    • Weather. We won't pour concrete or set a shell in conditions that compromise it.
